Nebraska Hot Spots

This program features a track-side tour of Nebraska starting with a visit to the busy Burlington Northern corridor between Grand Island and Crawford including Cairo, where you will see a five train meet and Ravenna, a crew change point for the BN.

We then drop down to the Union Pacific “Overland Route” along US 30 for intense action in the North Platt area.

Featured are Union Pacific, Burlington Northern, Chicago and North Western, Kansas City Southern, and Santa Fe second and third generation diesels including EMD and GE Super Cab units. Coal trains, manifest, double stacks and TOFC all do their part to keep the rails polished.
Color, sound, narration, one hour.

UP BNSF (the front range, crawford hill, the plains)

In this spectacular video, Green Frog photographer Rich Kugel takes us on an exciting journey along the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains and then across the vast expanse of the Great Plains. This region is famous for beautiful western scenery, endless vistas, and spectacular railroad action!

We begin at the Joint Line in Colorado and then move north to Wyoming for a visit to Cheyenne, Archer’s Curve, and Sherman Hill. Then it’s on to Nebraska for a look at operations on BNSF’s Crawford Hill and the sprawling yard in Alliance.

We end our tour with a salute to the Union Pacific as we follow their legendary Central Corridor from Gibbon Junction to North Platte, Nebraska. This incredible line is the world’s busiest freight railroad and boasts a triple track mainline seeing over 160 trains a day!

The traffic density on this astounding “Colossus of Roads” rivals a commuter operation at rush hour with double and even triple meets being almost commonplace!

Nebraska Rails

Let’s head back in time, to May of 2007, and join videographer Chris Wehman as he traveled in to the high plains to capture some western railroad action.

In Nebraska Rails, we’ll take a look at both Union Pacific and BNSF operations in the Cornhusker state, along with side trips in to Colorado, as well as in to the Powder River coal basin in Wyoming.

We’ll visit the busiest all freight mainline in the world: Union Pacific’s triple track mainline between Gibbon and North Platte, Nebraska. We’ll also visit the world famous Crawford Hill, and watch as BNSF trains struggle over the large horseshoe curve.

Additionally, BNSF’s busy Angora Subdivision will be visited, as well as some UP action on the former Overland Route east of Gibbon. If you enjoy heavy duty western railroading, Nebraska Rails is for you!
