The GP-9’s were the second most prolific locomotive ever to come out of General Motors. They were the mainstay of the railroad industry shortly after steam was phased out.

On this video you will see and hear four GP-9’s working a private branch line known as the Georgia Northeastern. This line runs north into the Georgia mountains, so very little trackage is straight, the scenery is terrific, with steep grades, some approaching 5%, sharp, winding curves and lots of trees and cuts.

There are some great shots from the front as the train snakes through the north Georgia foothills. When these old diesels roar, they really ROAR-R-R! In tandem, they pack a lot of punch!
